How To Refill A Wink Of Stella Glitter Pen

Today I'm going to show you a quick and easy way to get every last sparkle bit out of your Wink Of Stella glitter pens.

For those of you who have not tried or heard of Wink Of Stella glitter pens by Zig, they are brush pens that are made from nylon, and they are packed full of extremely fine glitter.

People use them to add sparkly accents and just a 'wink' of shimmery glittery happiness to your projects.

I really like the Wink Of Stella shimmer pens because they are non-toxic and carry the AP stamp of approval.

They also have no odor. And there are quite a few colors to choose from. If you would like to order a set to try you can purchase them on Amazon.

So the other day I was filming a tutorial and one of my favorite Wink Of Stella colors was empty.

You can get so much use out of these pens and they seem to go on forever but eventually, they will run out (sad face).

Nothing was coming out of the tip anymore, so I wanted to take this opportunity to show you what I do to use up every last bit of sparkle and shimmer.

We all have our favorite Wink Of Stella brush pen colors and mine happens to be the clear glitter pen so that's the one that I'm going to fill for you today.

You can see here that this glitter pen is no longer full but there’s still a ton of sparkle left and you can just imagine what’s left inside the barrel!

Craft supplies can get expensive and it all adds up doesn't it? So whenever we can share tips on how to extend the life out of your supplies makes us very happy here at DIY Craft Club.

These are especially fun to use for cardmaking and for junk journal page ideas.

Step 1

Unscrew the barrel of the pen. This pen has two parts, the bottom barrel and then the top, which is where the shimmer comes up to the tip when it's pressed.

So just unscrew the bottom half and set the top aside.

Step 2

Pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol into a glass container. The smaller the better here because you don't need very much.

The goal is to is to have just the right amount to soak up the shimmery bits that are inside the barrel, but not enough to make things too saturated and watery.

You definitely want to use alcohol here because if you use water, nasties can start growing in your pen, especially if you don't use it for a while.

Plus the alcohol will evaporate very quickly so your projects will turn out way better. I'm using a 50% solution and if you have a higher alcohol % that will evaporate even quicker!

Step 3

Press the sides of the pen in while holding the barrel hole side up.

Then put the hole side down into the alcohol and gently release the sides so that the alcohol will go up into the barrel.

Step 4.

Put the glitter pen back together and shake well. To get the shimmer into the tip just gently re-prime again pressing the sides until you can see the slurry. You should be able to see all of that sparkle now! You would not want to waste that!

Now do be aware that whatever adhesive was in the barrel that makes the shimmer stick to your surface will be diluted, so just keep that in mind.

Perhaps if you add a drop or two of very thin glue, such as Art Institute Glitter Glue or Bearly Arts Glue in the barrel, and shake well, that would work. Or you could a drop of liquid gum arabic, which is the binder used in a lot of watercolors. Add your isopropyl alcohol (I use 91% alcohol because there’s less water in it) and shake well

Use pump Hairspray instead of alcohol. Glitter will stick.

If you add fine glitter to the alcohol before you release the sides it will add more glitter to the pen.

Thank you. if you are using alcohol to refill, what makes the glitter stick to your project. I would think that as soon as it dried, it would rub off. I may be all washed out here but I was just thinking.
