There is nothing sweeter than soft, smooth, moisturized skin and one of the best ways to achieve this is by using a homemade sugar scrub.

Plus, who doesn't love a homemade gift? Homemade sugar scrubs make fantastic presents any time of the year.
DIY sugar scrubs can be used on the face, hands, feet, and whole body. Sugar scrubs also look lovely sitting on the side of your sink or tub in a sweet little mason jar.
Let's get to the easy sugar scrub DIY tutorial.
In a bowl, add your sugar and give it a stir to make sure there are no clumps.
In a separate bowl, add 10-15 drops of the essential oil you want your sugar scrub to smell like to your oil and stir together. You can add all from one kind of essential oil or make a custom blended scent for your sugar scrub recipe.
Add the oil to your sugar, stirring as you go. Stir until it is all incorporated.
Here is where you would also add your food coloring to your sugar scrub recipe after everything else is blended if you want added color.
Also, keep in mind that a vanilla essential oil will be a dark brown color which will be reflected in your scrub. Maybe you want that look, or you don't. Just something to keep in mind.
Spoon the sugar scrub into wide mouth jars. If you plan on using this homemade sugar scrub in the shower, you may opt to use a plastic option in case it falls.

The best jars are wide mouth mason jars or plastic jars. Use mason jars for beside the sink and plastic jars for the shower. If you like the idea of using plastic jars for in-shower use, make sure you find some BPA-free jars.

Does this scrub go bad?
Thanks for your comment. Since the essential oil is mixed with a carrier oil first, this recipe is good to go for the shower or tub. Glad you enjoyed the recipe! We have more information about carrier oils here. https://diycraftclub.com/blogs/idea-room-1/what-is-a-carrier-oil-which-carrier-oil-is-best
Thanks for the recipe! Already tried it and loved it. Did have a word of warning – essential oils shouldn’t be used for the shower or bath unless they have been solubilized. The oils will separate when exposed to water, increasing the chances of direct contact with the body – increasing the chance of irritation and sensitization. This homemade sugar scrub has a shelf life of around 6 months, depending on how clean you keep it. Try to keep the lid on whenever it is not being used, and use clean tools or hands to take the scrub out of the jar with. You will know when the scrub goes bad if it has a different or an off smell to it. The nice thing about making your own homemade sugar scrub is that you can easily make another batch when this happens :)
