Something that I find super helpful is downloading books like these and listening to them while I am in my craft room or just editing photos for an article. So if this is something you want to do, you can try Audible and get 2 free audiobooks!
Now, let's go over some marketing tools and talk about how they can help that growing online business of yours!
How are your photos for your blog or Etsy store? Are you taking them with your phone because it takes great photos? Or do you have a camera that works "just fine"? Taking great photos is integral to helping your business. The camera that I use is a Canon EOS 60D with an 18-55mm lens.
It takes amazing photos and is great across the board, for newbies, amateurs or professionals. It can be used manually, or you can simply set it to Auto and go.
I can't stress how important it is to take clear, still pictures. Forget setting your camera up on something makeshift when you in in the moment. This is the tripod I have for my above-mentioned camera.
I love it because it is made out of aluminum, so it is light in the way of big tripods if you are carrying it somewhere to take photos away from your studio or in the outdoors somewhere.
Plus, it is adjustable at many different levels, making it super versatile! I love mine and have had it for almost ten years now.
Depending on the size of what you are marketing, this Portable Mini Photo Studio Box may help you out with your product photos!
This is a small studio box that can be set up quickly anywhere to get those professional shots of your product. If you want to see an example of what your product may look like in one of these, check out our article for How To Make Meringue Cookies, (photos taken with my Canon EOS 60D) and you will see the up-close pictures of the meringue cookies I made, taken in a mini photo studio box.
It is a great little tool for taking those kinds of up close pictures and has its own light bar at the top! Then it folds down to be put away.
Lighting. Is. Everything. I think I am driving this point home that you need great photographs of the products you are making and selling. Yes, you need a great camera. You also need great lighting.
Check out some of the lighting kits you can buy for your photography needs for Etsy! We use our lighting kit so often at DIY Craft Club because one photo with bad lighting or a rogue shadow makes you look unprofessional, and the competition out there can be fierce, so get on top of your game with this one!
As an online seller, something we feel we need to share with you is the importance of Pantone in your marketing. Every year, there is a new "color of the year" released in December, for the upcoming year.
As soon as that color is released, everybody out there is paying attention to make sure their stores showcase those colors in their marketing, in the advertising, their products, posts and more.
We wrote an article called "PANTONE: What All Crafters And Artisans Need To Know" and we highly recommend you read it to learn about what Pantone can mean to your business.
At DIY Craft Club, we can also offer you stylized photos, printables and downloadables you can use online for your store, in marketing and even when you send your product out. Check out our printable and downloadable section.
