Do you love collecting shells? Or maybe you have shells already collected from vacations and memories of walking along beautiful beaches.

We have a beautiful way for you to accent those shells and make them into gorgeous displays using gold metallic accents.

Shell Decorating Idea

Accenting collected shells with metallic paint pens can turn them into gorgeous decorative pieces in your home that you can glue onto a backing board or canvas and hang on your wall, or you can add them to a vase and display on a shelf or mantle.

We took some beautiful shells that were just collecting dust, cleaned them and accented them using a Krylon gold leafing pen.

Materials Needed To Paint Shells:

• Clean, dry shells
• a Krylon Gold Leafing pen which you can find for a great on Amazon here
• a clean surface to work on that you can line with paper towels or parchment paper to protect from the paint

Here is how you decorate those beautiful shells with a gold leaf pen

1. Clean Your Shells: First, you are going to want to make sure your shells are totally clean and completely dry. We recommend carefully washing your shells in warm, soapy water, rinsing thoroughly and leaving them on a dry cloth to dry out.
2. Decide how you are going to paint your shells: are you going to gold leaf the thin edges? Are you going to draw thick gold lines on? Maybe you want a variation of thin and thick lines on your shell edges and some might be totally painted with gold. It all depends on the look you are going for.
3. Prime your gold leafing pen (if you watch our video below unboxing and reviewing the Krylon gold leafing pen, we show you how to properly prime a painting pen).
4. Paint the edge of the shells. Follow along the ridge line and go up the shell making the line as thick as you would like. The Krylon gold leafing pen is great for painting shells with as the hard, rigid tip gets into every nook of the edge of the shell
5. Let the shells dry completely. You can embellish the shell further if you would like with glitter, nail polish, or a fine tipped paint pen with which you can add intricate designs or words.

Now that you have embellished these gorgeous shells with your gold leafing pen, you can add them to a vase for a beautiful accent piece, or make them into ornaments, and more. There are so many possibilities, you are only limited by your imagination.
