Chai Tea Recipe And Ingredients

Chai tea is the most delicious drink. Warm, creamy and beautifully spiced with the most aromatic chai tea ingredients, it's no wonder this tea has been long celebrated as the best tea latte.

Chai tea ingredients are what really bring the flavor notes out in this drink. Chai tea ingredients include green cardamom pods, fresh ginger root, tea masala (which typically include cardamom, cloves, ginger, cinnamon and cloves), milk, sugar and black tea.

But there is an order and method in which you add these ingredients - read below to see how to bring these chai tea ingredients together to infuse them properly.

*This makes enough for 2-3 cups of chai tea. You can easily double this for a group if you need to.

Chai Tea Recipe And Ingredients

Easy Chai Tea: INGREDIENTS

Note: Some of the chai tea ingredients can be hard to find in grocery stores. I buy mine from Amazon, so I left the links in the ingredient list for chai tea below.

  • 2 cups of water
  • 2-3 bags of orange pekoe tea, depending on how strong you like your tea.
  • Fresh ginger root: about 5-8 circular, thin slices (also depending on how much spice you like in your chai tea, I like my chai tea to be slightly spicy so I use around 8)
  • 7-10 green cardamom pods. Be sure to use green cardamom; the black cardamom pods will leave your chai tea tasting slightly bitter.
  • 2 tsp tea masala
  • 1-3 tbsp granulated sugar: optional and by taste.
  • 1 cup of milk (your choice for the type of milk, my go-to is 2% milk for chai tea)

    Easy Chai Tea: DIRECTIONS

    1. Take a small knife and crack open each cardamom pod a bit (please be careful doing this). As long as you even get a small crack or hole in each one, that is perfect. You may even be able to just squeeze them in between your thumb and finger to crack them!
    2. In a pot or saucepan, add your water, tea bags (can use decaf if preferred, I like to throw an extra tea bag in when I make mine decaf), cardamom and sliced ginger root. Bring chai tea ingredients to a boil.
    3. As soon as the chai tea pot boils, add your milk and tea masala. This is where you would add the sugar as well if you want it sweetened, but you can also add it afterwards to your individual cup of chai.
    4. Turn the temperature of your chai tea down to medium-high from high. As soon as the milk is about to boil, take it off the burner. If it were to boil, it would scald the milk and boil right out of the pot at this point, and you don’t want that to happen.
    5. Strain your chai tea ingredients. I like to strain my chai tea ingredients through a tea strainer right into a teapot, ready for serving. Pour and enjoy!

Chai tea is a very popular and delicious, warm drink enjoyed by so many. Another fun twist on it is a chai tea latte, where it gets topped off with foamed milk and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top.

For an added magical touch, sprinkle with a bit of cinnamon and put 1 or 2 star anise on top. They will float and will complement the flavors of the chai tea ingredients and the magic of the chilly day.

You can even put some cinnamon sticks on the side for aesthetics or to stir the chai tea with.
